THE UNION
Every
Thursday at 8:00 is praise and worship. The weekly worship time involves several campus ministries. It is held
at the BCM Center. This is an exciting worship time that is changing our campus. Hundreds of students are finding
spiritual strength and vision each Thursday evening. This starts back up the first week of the semester.
OUR HISTORY
The BCM was called the Baptist Student Union for many years. Our story
is a story of faith and prayer.
In 1932 the people and pastor of FBC Edmond felt like a special ministry was needed for
the students at Central State College. The BCM begain as a group of students meeting at the parsonage home of Dr. E. M. Ramey.
They soon moved to meeting in a classroom on campus. In 1946 a two story white house was purchased on the corner of what was
then College and Main. In 1956 the lot next to the house was purchased. In 1958 a center was constructed for campus ministry.
Mary Wrany was the first BSU Secretary for which she was paid $4 a week. Ada Ingram, Gene McBride, and John Burns were campus
ministers who gave direction to the student run organization. When the property was purchased it was surrounded by other houses.
As the University obtained land the BCM Center was left an island of private property surrounded by the university. In 1984
a larger kitchen and a worship area were added onto the existing center.
In
1979, Dr. Charles Lillard came to the BSU to assume the role of Director. He completed his 31th year at UCO in May. August
1, he completed 39years of collegiate ministry in the state of Oklahoma. He served previously at Northwestern Oklahoma State
University, and the University of Tulsa.
From this center God has sent thousands
to serve Him. Our task continues to be:
To produce qualified laborers, in significant numbers, as quickly as possible
to fulfill the great commission.
